Thomas Delaney
Company: GMAC Institutional Advisors
Position: Assistant Vice President, Equity Real Estate
Alumni Interview:
Q: What were you doing prior to perusing the Professional MBA Program?
A: Prior to my enrollment at Temple's Fox School of Business, I was working at a Center City Philadelphia financial services firm, and in a position where I felt my professional goals and aspirations could not be achieved without further educational enhancement. Prior to this firm, I lived for many years in coastal and central New Jersey, where available employment opportunities proved unfulfilling. In early 1999, I relocated to Center City Philadelphia, not long after attaining my undergraduate degree from Rutgers University.
Q: Why did you choose the FOX Professional MBA?
A: I chose the Fox Professional MBA program because for multiple reasons. Fox is conveniently located in proximity to Philadelphia's professional business core. This location assured my then employer that it could receive my full attention in the workplace while I pursued my studies. This same employer boasted numerous Temple and Fox graduates, which further eased my decision making process. At the same time, the convenient location of the Center City campus to both my home and my employer ensured that I would be able to maximize the available resources at Fox. Finally, I discovered the influential presence of Fox alumni throughout the greater Philadelphia business community, and understood that this was a strong testament to Temple University's Fox MBA program.
Joseph Henry
Year: 1985
Position: VP, Corporate Strategic Planning
Company: Independence Blue Cross
Personal Testimonial: I began at Independence Blue Cross in 1980, 4 years after graduating from Penn State University. By January 1981, I enrolled in Temple's MBA Program spending 2 nights per week in class and about 2 -3 more nights per week reading, studying and working on group projects. My class schedule was in addition to a 40 + hour per week job. This schedule continued virtually year round until my graduation in 1985. The program fit well with the demands of a full time career, while giving me the opportunity to apply my "day job" to the theories and concepts I was learning in the evening.
The Temple MBA program has introduced me to the professional world of management- the language, the disciplines, the research, the philosophies. To this day, I continue to analyze issues from multiple perspectives and looking at underlying causes instead of simply reacting to the frequently misleading "obvious" situation. The Fox MBA has been a playing factor in my 26 year career at IBC, giving me multiple opportunities to put the Fox MBA education into action.
