MS in Management Information Systems
The Master of Science in Management Information Systems (MS in MIS) is part of the nationally recognized Fox School of Business and Management Techno-Graduate programs that provide an in-depth knowledge of information systems. The MS in MIS will develop information technology (IT) professionals who can manage, lead, develop, and evaluate organizational information systems.
The program focuses on:
- A program that integrates in-depth knowledge of information technology with business.
- Internet, electronic commerce, and distributed organization concepts are integrated into the curriculum.
- Customizable program of study with focus on different industries and areas.
- Emphasizes communication, networking, teamwork, and hands on project-based learning.
- Integrative capstone project experience.
The MS in MIS requires 10 courses: 4 core MIS courses, 5 electives and seminars, and a capstone course.
Typical career options for students graduating from this program include: System Analyst, Project Manager, System Architect, Database and Knowledge manager, System Designer, Application Developer, Chief Information Officer (CIO), and Chief Technology Officer (CTO).
Designed for business, university and government professionals who want to upgrade skills or change careers, it is flexible enough to accommodate those with: (1) undergraduate majors or minors in information systems; (2) non-information systems undergraduate or graduate degrees and practical experience in the information systems field; and (3) non-information systems undergraduate or graduate degrees and limited experience in information systems.
Admission Requirements
Note: The admission requirements listed below may differ from the admission requirements on the general Fox MBA admissions site.
- A baccalaureate degree from an accredited institution.
- GRE scores in the 60th percentile in each of the verbal, quantitative, and analytic areas. A GMAT score of at least 560. (The GMAT test is strongly preferred)
- A minimum TOEFL score of 600 (paper), 250 (computer), or 100 (iBT) for non-native speakers of English.
- Resume describing the applicants professional experience
- Two Required Essays:
- Please describe an incident from your personal experiences that typifies your definition of leadership. Specifically address ethics, diversity, collaboration and motivation.
- Describe how you would expect to change over the course of the program. What personal and professional values and skills do you hope to acquire beyond the academic content? How will obtaining the degree help you achieve your career goals?
- Two years of work experience and knowledge of the fundamentals of information technology (this requirement may be met by taking pre-requisite courses; see below).
- Two academic or professional references

Admission Pre-requisites
- Knowledge of information systems and systems development: Basic principles of computing such as hardware and software, packaged software, databases, networking, Internet, organizational use of systems, types of information systems, the role of information systems, and systems development. You can meet this requirement through relevant work experience.
- Completion Time: Students can complete the MS in MIS program in 2-4 years on a part-time basis, depending upon prior coursework, IT competence and experience, and the number of courses taken each semester. The MS in MIS is designed as a part-time degree for working adults in the evening. The program can be completed on a full-time basis if you so chose with the following restrictions:
- The MIS core courses are typically offered once a year.
- There is typically only one MIS elective offered per semester.
- All courses are typically only offered at the evening and the campus locations may vary.
- Campus: The program is offered on the main campus of Temple University, on the Fort Washington campus, and also at the Center City campus (TUCC). Students will not be able to complete the program at one location and will likely have to take courses on multiple campuses. The majority of courses will be offered on the Center City campus.

Tracks
Students should select an elective and seminar courses based on a defined area of study. Students will have the option to choose a predefined or new track. The planned pre-defined tracks include:

- Construction & Engineering Management
Capstone (1 course)
The capstone course will provide students with an integrative experience in information systems. Students will apply the material from earlier courses to research and/or develop a complete IT solution for an organization. The course will be taught in a seminar format and students will work in teams on complex applied problems.

Pre-requisite: completion of all 4 core courses and 2 electives.
Total credits for MS in Management Information Systems is 30.

a. Apply an in-depth understanding of current and emerging technologies to develop plans for the effective use of information technology.

c. Interpret current technology trends, such as globalization, partnerships, and outsourcing relationships, and recognize how to leverage the trends.
