Accounting and Financial Management

The MS in Accounting and Financial Management program provides a common body of business knowledge as well as specialized knowledge in accounting and finance.  The program provides the student with a broad general education and intensive study within the major as preparation for professional careers in public accounting, cost and managerial accounting, information systems, business consulting, government, and not-for-profit institutions.

Business Core Courses:

  • ACCT 500 - Financial and Managerial Accounting
  • ECON 500 - Managerial Economics
  • FIN 500 - Financial Analysis and Strategy
  • STAT 500 Quantitative Methods for Business

These courses may be waived by the Program advisor based on appropriate past coursework.

Required Courses

Select a total of 10 upper level courses, including 4 from accounting, 4 from finance and 2 electives from any business discipline.

Students should choose at least four from the following accounting courses:

  • ACCT 5111 - Concepts and Analysis of Financial Statements Analysis
  • ACCT 5121 - Managerial Cost Accounting
  • ACCT 5101 - Financial Accounting Theory
  • ACCT 5102 - Advanced Financial Accounting
  • ACCT 5123 - Auditing theory and Practice
  • ACCT 5125 - Accounting Information Systems
  • ACCT 5112 - Federal Income Tax

Note: Students may take other 500 level accounting courses in place of one or more of those above with the permission of the MS in Accounting and Financial Management Program Advisor.

Students should choose at least four from the following finance courses:

  • Fin 5102 - Management of Financial Institutions
  • Fin 5110 - Foundations in Business Financial Decisions
  • Fin 5104 - Advanced Corporate Finance
  • Fin 5109 - Investments
  • Fin 5502 - International Financial Management

Note: Students may take other 500 level finance courses in place of one or more of those above with the permission of the MS in Accounting and Financial Management Program Advisor.

Two 500-level Business electives are also required.

Total credits for MS in Accounting and Financial Management is 30 to 42 depending on prerequisites.
