Special Issue on Executive Compensation

The Journal of Economics and Business invites submission of papers that deal with topics related to executive compensation. Executive compensation has been a hotly debated topic. Some researchers suggest that executive pay is an outcome of optimal contracting arrangements, while others have argued that executive pay is excessive and is a result of rent extraction by managers. With the increased disclosure on compensation mandated by the SEC in 2006, there is scope for more research on compensation arrangements within firms. We solicit papers that are in any area of executive compensation.
Possible paper topics include, but are not limited to:
- Effect of compensation incentives on managerial behavior
- Effect of compensation incentives on firm value
- Are Supplemental Executive Retirement Plans (SERPs) excessive?
- Do SERPs promote better alignment of managerial incentives?
- Are CEO perquisites excessive?
- Is pay for ‘luck’ a form of rent extraction?
- Is benchmarking of top executive pay consistent with optimal contracting?
- Has the increased compensation disclosure mandated by SEC in 2006 changed the structure of executive pay?
Papers should be submitted electronically online to the Journal of Economics and Business (JEB) at http://ees.elsevier.com/jeb/. Authors should select "Executive Compensation" when asked to indicate the "Article Type" in the submission process. All papers will be refereed and the first review will be completed within 100 days of the receipt of the manuscript. Note that there is no submission fee. The deadline for submission is September 1, 2011. The special issue will be published in 2012.
