Competitions
In Spring 2008, the IEI is featuring two competitons: The Be Your Own Boss Bowl (see immediately below) and the Temple Sports ENTHUSIASM Competition.
The Be Your Own Boss Bowl, Temple University's
Business Innovation Competition provides a structured opportunity for
students, faculty, staff and alumni from across Temple University to develop
business innovations - whether businesses, products, services or technologies
- and to learn from the process. Over the course of an academic year (both
as part of classes and on their own time), participants float ideas, test
their feasibility, create prototypes, write business plans, and prepare
presentations for investors. At each stage, there are opportunities for
technical assistance, critique, networking, mentoring, learning and cash
prizes.
For 2007-2008, there are two
stages of competition:
- Innovative Idea - This year's competition is now completed. Congratulations to all our winners!

Winners of each stage of the Business Innovation Competition receive cash prizes, access to the Innovation Lab, extra coaching, and publicity. Cash awards range from $250 for great ideas to $10,000 for the winning business plan. The top prize award package may exceed $25,000 in cash and services. Winners of the final stage are also invited to present to investors, technology professionals and business advisors at the Temple University global Innovation and Entrepreneurship Expo in early May.
For 2007-2008, the Competition will offer prizes in two divisions:
- Undergraduate
- Graduate / Faculty / Alumni / Staff
Students, faculty, staff, and alumni from every school and college at Temple are encouraged to participate. These are campus-wide events!
Eligibility
The Temple University Business Innovation Competition is open to all students, faculty, staff and alumni of Temple University. Participants may be individuals or teams. Teams may include members without ties to Temple, provided that the individual with the Temple affiliation is the business founder/lead executive/chief shareholder. Interested parties are encouraged to register for an orientation and further information. Although we emplasize and encourage innovations in the medical sciences, high technology, and engineering, all kinds of ideas for businesses, new products and new technologies are eligible, so long as they are intended to have a business application. The Temple University Business Innovation Competition is geared for the creation of new innovative businesses in the Greater Philadelphia area, and not the expansion of existing businesses, or businesses to be based in other states or overseas.
Confidentiality
All ideas and business plans are held in strict confidence by all staff, mentors, advisors and judges. Winning entries will be publicized in Temple and external media.

Temple Sports ENTHUSIASM Competition
Temple University is committed to its student athletes and athletic programs. As we continue to build programs, we’re looking to students to help increase attendance. Lewis Katz, a Temple Alumnus, has made a generous donation to sponsor a campus-wide competition to find out what can be done to increase attendance at Temple’s Athletic Events. This competition is open only to current undergraduate and graduate students of Temple University.
Can you think of the most unique and creative idea to increase student, alumni and faculty attendance at Temple games? Would it be a sweepstakes, a marketing promotion, or a contest? If you think you have a totally unique idea to help boost attendance and you can effectively communicate it to us in 500-words or less, you could win $5,000!!!
What will it take to get more of Temple’s 35,000 students to attend athletic events and be enthusiastic about our sports? From Football to Men’s and Women’s Basketball to Tennis and Lacrosse your idea should increase student, alumni and faculty attendance and enthusiasm for the Owls. If you think you have the most creative and effective way to increase support for Owl Athletics, submit your idea today.
