Fox School of Business

Philadelphia Housing (And Its Surrounding Area)

Students are expected to identify and arrange their own housing prior to MBA Essentials.  On-campus university housing is very limited for graduate students at Temple University. Therefore, most Fox MBA students do not rent university-managed on-campus housing. Instead, students generally secure housing either near main campus, or as in most cases, students secure off-campus housing in the city of Philadelphia and its surrounding neighborhoods, many of which may require students to use public transportation to get to main campus.

If you would like to further discuss living in the Philadelphia area, you can connect with others joining you for the program. Please log in to Blackboard and go to the "Discussion Board" section. (For instructions on how to log in to Blackboard, please review the "Technology" section in the left-hand menu.)

Neighborhoods and Cost of Living

Philadelphia Area Communities
Many residents live in beautiful Victorian University City, Center City, South Philly, or in the Art Museum vicinity, which is a quick ride using Philadelphia's public transportation system called SEPTA. Other residents choose to live in Manayunk or Mount Airy, where renting a small home with a backyard is readily affordable. Still others live in Narberth, on Philadelphia’s Main Line, or in nearby Delaware County communities, where campus is little more than a 30-minute drive or train ride away.

Cost of Living
The cost of living in the greater Philadelphia area is lower than most major metropolitan areas including Los Angeles, San Francisco, New York, Washington, DC, and Boston.

Philadelphia remains one of the most affordable metropolitan areas in the country, and many residents are able to purchase a home in the area while completing their MBA degree.

In addition, greater Philadelphia has one of the lowest median home prices of U.S. metros, according to selectgreaterphiladelphia.com: http://www.selectgreaterphiladelphia.com/data/realestate/residential.cfm
