Fortune Small Business Ranks Temple as One of the Nation’s Top Entrepreneurial Schools
In its September 2007 issue, Fortune Small Business ranked Temple University’s entrepreneurship program as one of the top 25 undergraduate entrepreneurship programs in the U. S.
One of the primary reasons quoted for this distinction include Temple’s university-wide council on entrepreneurship, which creates interdisciplinary courses and workshops for students in all academic fields throughout the university. Fortune Small Business also cited Temple’s entrepreneurship certificate that is available to all of students, regardless of their majors. The 9-credit certificate can supplement any Temple degree, graduate or undergraduate and includes courses such as Fundamentals of New and Small Business Management, Business Plan Development, Entrepreneurial Finance, Entrepreneurial Marketing and other such courses. One of the judges commented that the certificate "…gives students the opportunity to gain entrepreneurship experience without having to major in the subject."
Also, Temple University was ranked by the same magazine as one of the top 3 entrepreneurship schools in Pennsylvania, along with University of Pennsylvania and Carnegie Mellon.
Temple, with the encouragement of its new President Ann Weaver Hart, has been making a concerted effort to provide students in all academic fields with interdisciplinary courses supplemented with applied workshops, seminars, mentoring, incubation and a new venture launch pad. Over the last 3 years the launching of new student companies and the ratio of success of these companies has accelerated.
The Innovation and Entrepreneurship Institute (IEI) has been a driving force within Temple University and the Fox School of Business, where it is housed, as well as a leader in applied innovation for the region. Last year, Entrepreneur magazine and Princeton Review jointly ranked the Fox School’s undergraduate Entrepreneurship program in the Top 5 in the U.S. and its graduate Entrepreneurship program in the Top 10.
