Michael R. Powers is professor of risk management and insurance and director of the Advanta Center for Financial Services Studies at Temple University's Fox School of Business and Management. He also serves as editor of the Risk Management and Insurance Review. Professor Powers has published two scholarly booksâThe Economics and Politics of Choice No-Fault Insurance and Global Risk Management: Financial, Operational, and Insurance Strategiesâand is the author of Icons, a science-fiction/fantasy novel. He has received awards for outstanding research from The Journal of Risk and Insurance, the Risk and Insurance Management Society, and the International Insurance Society. Prior to joining Temple, Professor Powers was deputy insurance commissioner for the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania. He received his B.S. in applied mathematics from Yale University, and his Ph.D. in statistics from Harvard University.
