Dr. Harold E. Klein

General and Strategic Management

Harold E. Klein (Ph.D., Columbia; M.B.A., Dartmouth; B.Chem.E., City College of NY) has taught in the strategic management area at the graduate and undergraduate levels, and the International and Executive MBA Programs. Concurrently, he is Visiting Scholar and Affiliate Faculty at the Center for Organizational Dynamics at the University of Pennsylvania. Dr. Klein served as the first GSM Department Ph.D. Program Coordinator, designed doctoral-level seminars and graduate courses in strategic management. Dr. Klein launched Fox Schoolâs International MBA Program as its first Director abroad, establishing it in France and subsequently in Tokyo. His research interests are in strategic planning methodology; management cognition, scenario planning techniques and, more recently, in the neurocognitive aspects of strategic thinking.
In his capacity as a Senior Partner and officer of a management consulting company, he directed projects in the design of strategic plans and planning systems for large corporations, including British Petroleum, Exxon, RCA, DuPont, GE, United Technologies and IBM, among others. Dr. Klein served on the Presidentâs Study of the Draft and subsequently led studies for the Office of the Secretary of Defense in planning for the Voluntary Army. He has been an on-site technical advisor in management and planning to the governments of over half dozen countries stretching from South America to the Caribbean to Africa to the Middle East, under the auspices of the U.S. Agency for International Development, the World Bank and the U.N. Development Programme.
