Master of Healthcare Management

We are pleased to announce the initiation of a Master of Healthcare Management program to be offered beginning in fall 2009. This is a continuation of our MBA in Healthcare Management degree which will terminate in fall 2009. The program restructuring will provide even greater depth of knowledge and skill development important for career development in the growing healthcare sector of the economy.

The Fox School of Business MHM located in the Department of Risk, Insurance & Healthcare Management (RIHM) prepares professional managers for advancement in health systems (e.g. hospitals, medical practice organizations, long-term care facilities, and community health providers) and healthcare related organizations (e.g. consulting firms, health plans and health insurance companies, pharmaceutical companies, information and financial support companies). The RIHM also offers an MS in Healthcare Financial Management for students who wish to specialize in health care financial management.

MHM Benefits

The Fox School of Business Temple is accredited by the Academy for the Advancement of Collegiate Schools of Business; and the Healthcare Management program by the Commission on Accreditation for Healthcare Management Education. The Healthcare Management Program was founded by Dr. Chuck Hall in 1968 and has been continuously accredited since 1970. The program provides a comprehensive look at the organization, management and financing of healthcare organizations. The curriculum was designed to provide students with a practical understanding of how healthcare organizations function and are managed.

MHM Study Options

The MHM is offered on full- and part-time bases. The business foundation and advanced managerial perspectives courses may be completed through coursework at our new technologically advanced Alter Hall on Temple’s Main Campus with many courses available at our Center City, Ambler and Fort Washington campuses.

Field experiences and residencies are available for those changing careers, those with more limited experience or those with the desire to experience work in a different setting. The Center for Healthcare Research and Management offers a unique field experience program, known as Management Grand Rounds (MGR). MGR combines seminars with field visits to a variety of healthcare organizations.

Students are required to complete a 12-week summer residency; part-time students with substantial experience may request waiver. In addition students are highly encouraged to  pursue post-graduate administrative residencies to promote further their leadership and managerial skills.

Dual study programs are available for students who wish to advance their knowledge in related fields such as financial management and information systems.
