Law and Ethics in Business (BA 515)
Law and ethics sometimes converge; and at other times what is legal may
not appear to be the right thing to do. In this course, students will
gain a sense of when and how the legal system may affect them in a
business setting, particularly in the areas of contract law, tort law
and government regulation of business. Students will also discuss situations
involving choices that may reach beyond the requirements of the law.
When the students study the legal and ethical significance of these
dilemmas, they will explore how such situations arise and how they
might be solved or even prevented.
Nature of Law in Business Decisions (LAW 501)
Nature and functions of the law and legal process as developed under
the Anglo-American system of jurisprudence. Seeks to achieve an understanding
of the legal environment within which business policy and decisions
are made.
Legal Aspects of Health Administration (LAW 531)
Interaction of social and legal factors on health care institutions.
Special attention to the common legal issues faced by administrators
and their management.
Law and Ethics in Business (LAW 802)
(Enrollment limited to students in the EMBA program.)
Examine a number of issues prominent in the business context, for example:
work place drug testing, whistle-blowing, environmental, products and
work place safety, insider trading, and sexual harassment. Learn how
the law treats each, and discover to what extent the legal approach overlaps
with what might be considered an ethical one. The course will be taught
via the case method.
E-Commerce and the Law (EBZ 504)
This seven-week course will highlight the legal issues that an educated
consumer or business professional must consider when dealing with the
dynamic world of Electronic Commerce. Issues discussed will include
Internet transactions, intellectual property protection, contract creation
and enforcement, potential tort liability, privacy and police power
issues. The course will focus on addressing these issues in a practical,
business-oriented fashion and will include a discussion of relevant
laws and judicial decisions.
Cyber Law (LAW 594)
This course will focus on the legal issues surrounding the dynamic world
of Electronic Commerce and will examine the needs of business managers
in the online environment. Topics will include business users of Internet
technology, intellectual property issues in Cyberspace, contract creation
and enforcement, taxation, on-line security offerings, potential tort
liability, privacy, obscenity, defamation and computer crimes. The
course will address these issues in a practical, business-oriented
fashion and will include a discussion of relevant laws and judicial
decisions.
