MS in Human Resources

Program Information

The MS in HR degree provides in-depth knowledge of contemporary HR management using a broad array of HR strategies, challenges, and practices. With evening courses offered at two convenient campus locations, the program is ideally designed for the full-time working professional who desires further professional development. Courses emphasize an educational experience that develops practical expertise through case analyses and presentations, interaction with business practitioners, and team projects. The MS in HR degree offers excellent professional growth as well as a solid foundation for those pursuing professional certification through the Society of Human Resource Management.

Students are able to complete the degree program through classes offered after 4:30 p.m., on a part-time basis (8 credit hours or less per semester).

Program Requirements

Prerequisite Course

STAT 5001  Quantitative Methods in Business (3 credit hours)

Advanced Curriculum (Required Courses - 6 credit hours total)

  • HRM 5051  Human Resource Management Strategies (1.5 credit hours)
  • HRM 5052  Ethical Decisions in Business (1.5 credit hours)
  • HRM 5053  Effective Organizational Communication (1.5 credit hours)
  • HRM 5054  Leadership Development (1.5 credit hours)

Choose Four of the following HRM courses (3 credit hours each, 12 credit hours total):

  • HRM 5112  Managing Productive Work Teams
  • HRM 5113  Power, Influence, and Negotiation
  • HRM 5114  Building High Performance Organizations
  • HRM 5115  Best Practices in Human Resource Management
  • HRM 5116  Strategic Reward Systems
  • HRM 5117  Human Resource Management in a Dynamic Environment
  • HRM 5182  Independent Study

Business Electives (9 credit hours total)

Choose Three 5001 level or above Business Electives, not HRM, or you may complete other graduate courses with the approval of the HRM departmental advisor/faculty director.

Capstone (3 credit hours)

HRM 5125  Strategic Challenges in Human Resource Management

Campus Location

The business foundation classes are offered in Center City campus throughout the year. Courses are also offered online and at Fort Washington.
