Capital Markets Room

The Fox School’s Capital Markets Room (CMR) is a mock trading room and simulation lab that occupies a prominent position on the first floor of Alter Hall. The CMR first opened in January 2009 and uses cutting edge technology to give the Fox Students a competitive advantage in accessing timely financial market data and learning how financial markets operate.
The CMR has 38 computer stations with dual screen monitors, with a subset of the stations configured as Bloomberg Professional terminals. Additional data access is provided through Standard and Poor’s Capital IQ service and Wharton Research Data Services (WRDS). Specialized software programs such as Stata, Matlab, JMP, and Crystal Ball are also available.
The horseshoe layout of the CMR allows it to be used as an instructional lab for special class sessions and tutorials. The design includes an instruction-friendly, master station that is linked to two drop down screens for document and computer program display. Additional television monitors can be used to display business and financial markets oriented programming, such as CNBC’s Street Signs. While the CMR’s design supports instructional sessions, it is open for general student use a large fraction of the day and most evening until 9pm. One of the main roles of the CMR is to support the William C. Dunkelberg Owl Fund. The Owl Fund is a student-managed mutual fund with holding selected by members of the Temple University Investment Association. A ‘ticker’ display in the room displays the holdings of fund.
