Ph.D. Program
Program Overview
The PhD program in Finance is a specialization in the Ph.D. Program in Business Administration (PhDBA) in the Fox school. The primary goal of the PhD program in Finance is to produce scholars who will be able to compete successfully for academic appointments at both aspirant and peer institutions. Students are trained rigorously in a broad range of sub-fields in finance with an emphasis on Corporate Finance. Our outstanding faculty mentors PhD students individually, and provides them with the research foundations and tools to maximize their research potential.
Program Requirements
The program involves course work for two or two and a half years, a preliminary exam in statistics and econometrics, a second year research paper, a comprehensive exam in finance, and a dissertation. In addition, the student must meet teaching and residence requirements. The average expected time to completion is five years.
The PhD curriculum consists of a total of 16 PhD-level courses (48 credit hours), which include:

- BA 9104 – Game Theory

- BA 9108 – Capital Markets Research
- BA 9105 – Business Econometrics I
- BA 9106 – Business Econometrics II
- BA 9209 – Business Econometrics III
- 3 Additional courses with the approval of the Finance Ph.D. advisor
Admission Requirements and Funding
Admission to the Ph.D. specialization in finance requires a year of college-level calculus. In addition, a masters' degree in business, economics or a related area (or an equivalent research and teaching background) is required.

You are highly encouraged to submit your application before December 15, which is the deadline for fellowship consideration.
