Erwin A. Blackstone, PhD
Professor, Economics
Erwin A. Blackstone is a professor of economics at The Fox School of Business and Management. He has been teaching economics for more than 35 years. Prior to coming to Temple in 1976, Dr. Blackstone taught at Cornell University, Dartmouth College and the University of Michigan. He is also a member of Phi Beta Kappa.
Dr. Blackstone's research areas include the economics of industrial organization, health economics, and privatization, and he has published on a variety of antitrust topics, including mergers, dominance, reciprocal buying, collusion and damages. He has published articles involving numerous industries, including copying machines, movies, airlines, defense and electronic security. His healthcare publications involve physicians, hospitals, dentists, and insurance. He has published his research in many prominent economics and pubic policy journals. He has also contributed chapters in books, written a book on the electronic security industry, edited a book on e-government, and wrote a monograph on private security.
In addition to teaching, Dr. Blackstone has served on many academic committees. He has served as chairman of the Departmental Graduate Affairs Committee and its Undergraduate Affairs Committee, chair of the Economics Department Awards Committee, director of Undergraduate Studies in Economics, on the University's Graduate Board and on The Fox School's Faculty Development Committee.
For his excellence in teaching, Dr. Blackstone was awarded the 1976 Clark Award at Cornell University, and the 2001 Andrisani-Frank Undergraduate Teaching Award for Excellence at Temple.
Dr. Blackstone received his AB from Syracuse University, and his MA and PhD from The University of Michigan.
