Captain Francis J. Sturm, Chief, Office of Port and Vessel Security

 

Captain Frank Sturm became Chief, Office of Port and Vessel Security in August 2004. Prior to this assignment, he was the Commanding Officer of Coast Guard Activities/Marine Inspection Office Europe in Rotterdam , The Netherlands, from June 2001 to June 2004. He also served as the Captain of the Port and Commanding Officer of Marine Safety Office Charleston, South Carolina, from 1998 to 2001.

 

Captain Sturm has served in a variety of other assignments during his Coast Guard career, including tours at Marine Safety Offices in Norfolk , Virginia , and Milwaukee , Wisconsin . He sailed as a Deck Watch Officer on the polar icebreaker USCGC POLAR STAR, served on the International Ice Patrol, and in various staff assignments at Coast Guard Headquarters and the Coast Guard's Marine Safety Center in Washington , DC .

 

Captain Sturm graduated with honors from the U.S. Coast Guard Academy in 1979 with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Marine Science. He was also awarded a Master of Science Degree in Chemical Engineering by The Johns Hopkins University.
