Elaine Dezenski, Deputy Assistant Secretary for Policy and Planning, Border and Transportation Security (BTS), Department of Homeland Security

 

On October 1, 2004 , Elaine Dezenski was appointed Deputy Assistant Secretary for Policy and Planning within the Border and Transportation Security Directorate, U. S. Department of Homeland Security. As Deputy Assistant Secretary, Ms. Dezenski will work closely with DHS components and other federal, state, and, local agencies; foreign governments; and industry stakeholders, to support the Administration's efforts to make the nation's borders and transportation networks secure while protecting free movement of legitimate goods and people across our borders.

 

Ms. Dezenski recently served as the Director of Cargo and Trade Policy at BTS, and previously as Director of Maritime, Land, and Cargo Policy at the Transportation Security Administration (TSA).).

 

Prior to joining TSA, Ms. Dezenski served as a Special Assistant to the Administrator of the Federal Transit Administration (FTA) and as a Program Manager in the FTA Office of Research. During her tenure at FTA, Ms. Dezenski was selected as a Brookings Institution Legislative Fellow, serving in the office of Congressman Sherwood Boehlert (R-NY). Ms. Dezenski began her professional career with the transportation division of Siemens Corporation.

 

She holds a Masters degree in public policy from Georgetown University and a Bachelors degree in international relations from Wheaton College , Norton , Massachusetts .

 

In the June 2004 edition of Air Cargo World, she was chosen as one of the air cargo industry's top 15 most influential leaders.

 

She currently serves on the National Board of the Women's Transportation Seminar and previously as the President of the Washington , DC chapter.
