Hello, my name is Andy Hagerman and I will be graduating in May 2008 with a BBA in marketing and international business. Wait a second…May 2008? Doesn’t that mean? Strike that…
Hello, my name is Andy Hagerman and I ALREADY graduated in May 2008 with a BBA in marketing and international business. I’m a nostalgic guy, so the whole closing one chapter to open the next thing never worked out so well for me.
I grew up in York, Pennsylvania and declared marketing and IB (international business) my second semester freshman year. I got involved in a lot of different activities and tried to take on a lot of leadership roles, mostly to get a better grasp on what direction I wanted to go.
Three years later I was going into my senior year and it was time to start bringing my thoughts together. I had done three very different internships: one with Utz Quality Foods, one with JP Morgan Chase, and one with Sodexho Food Services. I applied to around 50 different companies and interviewed with at least 20. All said and done, I had around 10 legitimate job offers by Christmas of my senior year. Although at the time deciding which firm to go with full time was tough, in retrospect it was a much easier decision making process than not having options at all. Hopefully I’ll be able to help all of you take the right steps through your college years to ensure you have plenty of options as well.
I will be starting with PricewaterhouseCoopers on September 8th as an Advisory Associate, essentially doing consulting work. I’ll write later about how I got to this decision. I just wanted to introduce myself for now. In the future I will be writing about some of the things I did in college that helped me or hurt me, tips for interviews, resumes, and professional development, how to make moves and get yourself recognized, and my general transition from student to full-time job.
