Boardroom
April 2nd, 2009 ( Permalink )
Here’s a room I may not have spotlighted before. It is the Frederic Fox Executive Boardroom, which seats 28+ persons and is equipped with electric shades, an 83″ plasma screen, built-in audio and video conferencing, and like every other room in Alter Hall, it is “smart”.
Paneling Nearly Complete
March 31st, 2009 ( Permalink )Full height paneling is installed on the southside wall of Alter atrium. Work will be completed by the end of the week. Last week carpenters added wainscot on atrium levels two and three.

One Year Ago Today
March 23rd, 2009 ( Permalink )I love looking at finished spaces we occupy today in Alter Hall through the lens of the blog’s timeline. For example, one year ago today this is what the auditorium on the lower level looked like. This view is from stage front looking toward the Montgomery Street wall now covered almost entirely in mural.
Cornerstone Sign
March 20th, 2009 ( Permalink )Signage identifying Alter Hall is making its way around the building from east to west. The “bench” on 13th Street was the first, now we have added an engraved and silver-leafed Alter Hall 2008 on the corner of Montgomery Avenue and 13th Street.
In the next month, signs will appear around the red “drum” surrounding the auditorium and over the main entrance on Liacouras Walk.
Security Desk Arrives
March 10th, 2009 ( Permalink )
After making do with a twinky-sized, temporary podium since Alter opened in January, our favorite security guard, Dave, finally has a place to call home. Lacking only a logo for its face, the maple panelled station was installed on Monday. The location of the desk gives clearer definition to the entrance, corridor, and atrium space.
1st of the Alter Hall Signs
March 4th, 2009 ( Permalink )Last week the first of four signs that will idenify Alter Hall was completed on the 13th and Montgomery side of the building. Here you see a student walking from the “Alter” end of the sign to the “Business” end of what has been described as a “bench,” with the letters forming the back of the bench. The sign reads ALTER HALL FOX SCHOOL OF BUSINESS. In spring grass will be planted between the bench and the building.
Kinetic Sculpture Installed
February 20th, 2009 ( Permalink )Brad Howe, LA-based artist and his assistant Jason, spent three days on-site installing a kinetic sculpture whose theme is Globalization. He takes the concept from its origins … ship pennants displaying their national colors. The constantly moving sculpture fills most of the 32′ high atrium space with flag impressions hand painted by Disney artists on rugged aircraft aluminum of the 192 countries recognized by the United Nations.
Finishing Touches
February 16th, 2009 ( Permalink )Over the weekend, wood modesty panels were added to student and instructor work stations in the Capital Markets Room, giving the room a more finished look than it had when wires, cables, and power cords were exposed when it opened last week.
LED Lighting in Atrium
February 13th, 2009 ( Permalink )Three strings of LED lights, a gift from LDC Lighting, Inc., allows us to activate 13 “scenes” that change colors, patterns and duration. The lights are positioned behind two lateral support beams between Alter Hall and what was once the south wall of Speakman Hall.
