Students Gravitate To Atrium
Wednesday, January 21st, 2009
Fox students wasted no time grabbing the comfortable seats in the Alter Atrium. Positioned right next to Jazzman’s Cafe, the Atrium apears to be prime resting spot for students moving between classes or a good place to enjoy a cup of joe before that statistics class.
Obama Inauguration and Alter Opening
Tuesday, January 20th, 2009Today was a special day for two reasons; America inaugurated its first African-American president, and Alter Hall opened for students in the Fox School of Business. Because Alter Hall is so rich in technology, we could show the inauguration throughout the building … on a 16′ video wall at the entrance, on a large projection screen in the 1st floor Undergraduate Lounge, and on two large screens in the 7th floor MBA Commons. Hundreds of students, staff, and faculty turned out to watch the event, as the video below shows.

Longest Elliptical Ticker in the US
Wednesday, January 14th, 2009Yesterday Rise Vision Inc. installed a ticker tape display around the underdraduate student commons. The ticker is the latest dramatic addition to Alter Hall and can be seen clearly from the street and from multiple points on the first floor, lower level, and Capital Markets Room. In addition to displaying up-to-date stock quotes, the 8-color LED ticker provides headline news and Fox-specific information and announcements.

Paneling Begins on 7
Wednesday, January 7th, 2009With less than two weeks to go before opening, much of the finish work is nearing completion in some of the most dramatic spaces. Maple wainscoting has been completed in all elevator lobbies and classroom corridors, and today carpenters began installing 9′ sheets of maple paneling in the 7th Floor Commons … the MBA student lounge and special events space with expansive views of the downtown Philadelphia.
Hello Chair
Monday, January 5th, 2009I returned from holiday break today to discover 95% of Alter furniture installed. Here is what I am sure will be one of the most popular rooms on the undergraduate classroom floor, A 241. The room is equipped … like all of the breakout rooms … with an LCD and inputs for your laptop. But this room is different because the seating is soft, movable and functional. This is your Hello Chair Collaboration Room!
Preparing to Open
Sunday, December 28th, 2008Your Alter Hall blogger is taking a break until January 5, 2009. By then every office scheduled to movel to Alter Hall will be in place. The first weeks of January will be spent preparing Alter Hall for the term beginning January 20, 2009, at which time the front doors of Alter Hall will open for classes in the new building. Keep watching … I will have more to say and show in the weeks ahead as we begin the countdown to Alter Hall’s opening!
Window Washers
Friday, December 19th, 2008How close are we to completion when window washers are rappelling down the sides of Alter Hall? This photo was taken by Zeke Moctezuma with his new Blackberry Storm (pretty good quality).
The Dean’s Office, PR, Development, Cochran, IGMS and IEI are settled into their new homes. Between now and January 12th, everyone else will join us.
The Red Drum
Tuesday, December 16th, 2008Just in time for the holidays, lights have been installed around the “drum” surrounding the lower level auditorium giving the interior of Alter Hall a warm red glow. This shot is taken from within the Center for Student Professional Development (CSPD) looking towards the Undergraduate Student Lounge overlooking Montgomery Avenue.
Driscoll is rushing to get the whole building certified for occupancy by the end of the week
Moving to Alter Hall
Tuesday, December 9th, 2008Boxes are packed, shelves emptied, and walls are looking pretty bare as the Dean’s Office in Speakman Hall prepares to move to Alter Hall on December 11 and 12. In addition to the Dean’s Office, IGMS, IEI, the Cochran Center, Development and PR will be moving at the same time. If you have questions about who is moving next, write me on the blog.
