Dick Fox Tours Alter Hall
Thursday, September 11th, 2008
Fox School namesake and Board of Trustees member Dick Fox toured Alter Hall for the first time since the exterior walls went up. Here Dean Moshe Porat points out some features of the recently completed 13th Street exterior to Dick Fox. Project manager Andy Riccardi at right led the tour.
A Peek Inside
Wednesday, September 10th, 2008Work has really accelerated inside of Alter Hall. In the last two weeks we have asked the department chairs to work with their faculty to identify offices. We even took the chairs and their assistants on tours to familairize them with these new spaces. In the thumbnail below you catch a glimpse of the 5th floor hallway outside the marketing suite.
13th Street Verticals
Friday, September 5th, 2008The remaining metal sheathing is half-done on the 13th Street side of Alter Hall. The blue verticals at left are uncovered, the silver ones at right are done.
Dennis Alter Tours Alter Hall
Saturday, August 30th, 2008For the first time since the building was topped off in October 2007, Dennis Alter, Advanta CEO and lead contributor to Alter Hall, visited the building that bears his name. Here he pauses alongside the interior staircase that joins faculty floors to share a light moment with Dean Moshe Porat (left) and Andy Riccardi (right), director of constuction for the Alter, Tyler, and Medical School projects.
13th Street Scaffolding Down
Monday, August 25th, 2008One short week … that’s how long I was away. This morning I returned to a scaffolding- free Alter Hall, a recently installed Jazzman’s Cafe, and a new 13th Street entrance to Speakman Hall. Over the next few days I will show you some of that progress. Below is a view of Alter Hall without scaffolding from the corner of 13th and Montgomery.
If you would like to know a little about what is going on behind the scenes to plan for move-in, the Dean’s office has been showing office suites to department chairs so they can make room assignments, our scheduling coordinator has already booked classrooms for the spring semester, and our special events coordinator is figuring out what new spaces best fit the many luncheons, guest lecturers, and student fairs. My money is on the 7th floor MBA Commons as the most popular event space (see photo below).
Alter Blogger Taking a Break
Friday, August 15th, 2008I will be taking a break for one week. When I return August 25, I hope to show you renovations completed in Speakman Hall … classrooms, entrances, and the coming of Jazzman’s Cafe. I also expect all scaffolding will have been removed on the 13th Street side of Alter Hall. This is an exciting time for the Fox community; we are looking forward to working in a rejuvenated Speakman Hall this fall and christening Alter Hall in spring. In the meantime, here’s a sneak peak from the 7th floor MBA Commons.
Montgomery Ave. Scaffolding Down
Monday, August 11th, 2008This morning it was good to see an unobstructed view of the south side of Alter Hall … the side that fronts Montgomery Avenue. For the better part of six months this view has been obscured by net-covered scaffolding installed to protect onlookers from falling debris. Now you can see the building as it will appear to passersby when the building opens in spring 2009. In this view, taken at the corner of Liacouras Walk and Montgomery, there are still segments (in blue and black) that await installation of their silver metal skin.
Scaffolding Gone on Liacouras Walk
Monday, July 28th, 2008
About a week ago, I noticed the scaffolding coming down on the Liacouras Walk-side of Alter Hall. This morning when I arrived, it was all gone. On another note, some of you have asked when the screening on the Montgomery Avenue-side of the building will disappear. Because of its location directly on the street, there are safety issues that will make it the last to come down.
What a Difference a Year Makes
Tuesday, July 22nd, 2008Driscoll forman Steve Ciallella sent me these two images taken a year apart to demonstrate the dramatic progress made in one short year. The photo at left was taken July 20, 2007, the one at right, July 19, 2008.
Scaffolding Coming Down on Liacouras Walk
Monday, July 21st, 2008
When I returned to Temple this morning, I walked down Liacouras Walk on the west side of Alter Hall and noticed that most of the scaffolding had been removed. Here is a shot from the front of Shusterman Hall that catches a view from the northwest corner of Alter Hall. For the first time you can see the glass”bays” clearly defined.
