Alter Technology Wins ProAV Award

Wednesday, July 29th, 2009

spotlight-main-200.jpgA national trade magazine for AV professionals has named Temple University’s Alter Hall a Spotlight Award Winner in the “Best Education AV Project” category.  According to magazine editors, “What were the most competitive categories? Judges saw so many great entries for Best Education AV Project that they named two: Temple’s Alter Hall and the University of Nevada Reno’s Mathewson-IGT Knowledge Center.”

Speakman a Match for Alter

Tuesday, July 28th, 2009

exteriorpaint_sm.JPGWork continues on the exterior of Speakman Hall to make it more visually compatible with Alter.  In addition to powerwashing the exterior, crews have been painting window frames with “quicksilver,” the same baked enamel finish used for all window frames in Alter Hall. Don’t Call it “The Basement”

For years I have gently corrected anyone referring to the Lower Level of Speakman Hall as the basement, especially since our vitally important technology resources are housed there.  Now Phase 2 Speakman renovations is bringing some needed cosmetic changes to that much maligned area. Within the past three weeks, walls have been painted to match the color on floors 1-3, and a new diamond design floor pattern has been added to mirror the look of Alter Hall.

Alter Blogger Says Goodbye for Now

Thursday, July 2nd, 2009

deangelo_sm.jpgWell, its been a fun ride these past two-and-a-half years.  My first post was October 2006!  As some of you may know, I have retired from Temple University after 37 years …. eleven at Fox, the other 26 in the now defunct College of HPERD. Working on Alter Hall has certainly been the capstone of my career. However, I am not disappearing entirely.  I will be working as a part-time consultant on technology planning for the Fox School, and I expect to make occasional posts to the blog with the help of my our tech crew in Philadelphia.   I know we plan to remake the Alter site to focus more on how it operates … what the rooms are like, how to book them, the technology available, etc. Plus, Speakman Hall is being transformed and will soon be home the the School of Tourism and Hospitality and the Statistics and MIS departments. If there are things you would like me to feature, let me know and I will try to accomodate. Thanks for following the blog.  I have really enjoyed your participation.
