Kinetic Sculpture Installed
Friday, February 20th, 2009Brad Howe, LA-based artist and his assistant Jason, spent three days on-site installing a kinetic sculpture whose theme is Globalization. He takes the concept from its origins … ship pennants displaying their national colors. The constantly moving sculpture fills most of the 32′ high atrium space with flag impressions hand painted by Disney artists on rugged aircraft aluminum of the 192 countries recognized by the United Nations.
Finishing Touches
Monday, February 16th, 2009Over the weekend, wood modesty panels were added to student and instructor work stations in the Capital Markets Room, giving the room a more finished look than it had when wires, cables, and power cords were exposed when it opened last week.
LED Lighting in Atrium
Friday, February 13th, 2009Three strings of LED lights, a gift from LDC Lighting, Inc., allows us to activate 13 “scenes” that change colors, patterns and duration. The lights are positioned behind two lateral support beams between Alter Hall and what was once the south wall of Speakman Hall.
Capital Markets Room Opens
Monday, February 9th, 2009Dr. Howard Keen, assistant professor of finance, today became the first instructor to use our new Capital Markets Room (CMR). While it has all the attributes of other “smart” rooms in Alter Hall, the CMR is a smart room in the “round,” with two monitors per work station, two LCD dislays flanking two projection screens which will feature Fox-customized stock information, and a wide range of financial software (Morningstar, Stocktrak, FTS, and Factset). A Bloomberg terminal is available for students in the TECH Center.

Enjoy the View
Friday, February 6th, 2009Two students pause to enjoy a view of Center City from the 7th floor of Alter Hall. This imposing window wall in the MBA Commons affords a view of the Philadelphia skyline from the Benjamin Franklin Bridge to the Cira Center.
Acoustic Panels for Classrooms
Tuesday, February 3rd, 2009Workers have begun installing fabric wrapped panels in every classroom. These panels, which serve both aesthetic and acoustical roles, are used for noise reduction and reverberation control. Three colors will be used throughout the building, depending on the color scheme of a particular floor; gray, blue, and green. The room shown below is A 237.
