What is This?

I thought it was time to have a little quiz for all you Alter watchers. I have attached a thumbnail photo of something in Alter Hall. It is big and ill-defined … purposely. If you can identify 1) where it is located, 2) what it is, and 3) how it will be used, I will award a Starbucks card to the person with the best answer … that is if I can find my cards, which seem to have been lost on their way from Speakman to Alter.
(See my responses to your guesses below.)

Grid for the mural that will be displayed from the ground floor up on the south side wall.

Sorry, Jackie. We have other notation systems in the classrooms and collaboration rooms … but not a bad idea.

Ha. Jared, I could see how it might suggest bathroom tiles, but that’s not it.

Megan, That’s not fair … your offices overlook work being done on the mural so you have a natural advantage. I won’t award you the prize until you describle how the grid is connected to the mural itself. Now let’s see how smart you are

You are right, I did have an advantage!!!
It is kind of like paint by numbers??!! I am not an artist, but my guess would that the mural design is drawn out on a smaller grid similiar to the one on the wall. Each little square from the smaller grid is transferred and drawn on the corresponding square on the bigger grid.

Megan -close but just a little wide of the techno mark. The grid is actually prepared on computer … not drawn. Sure, it’s a technical distinction, but since you had inside information, I hold you to a higher standard
