Compass Rose
( Permalink )The photo below depicts the Alter Hall “Compass Rose,” a design that has appeared on maps and charts for centuries to indicate north, south, east and west. More recently it has been used as a design element on floors and pavements. There is, for example, a recently restored compass rose in the courtyard of City Hall in Philadelphia. The Alter Hall compass rose will spell out Alter Hall, Fox School of Business, 2008 in red, white and grey. It will be the first thing you see as you enter Alter Hall, between the entrance and security desk. The photo below shows a terrazzo craftsman filling the rose. The view is inside the entrance facing Liacouras Walk. Congratulations to Brian, a staff member in Student Affairs, for providing the correct answer.
