Scaffolding Gone on Liacouras Walk
Monday, July 28th, 2008
About a week ago, I noticed the scaffolding coming down on the Liacouras Walk-side of Alter Hall. This morning when I arrived, it was all gone. On another note, some of you have asked when the screening on the Montgomery Avenue-side of the building will disappear. Because of its location directly on the street, there are safety issues that will make it the last to come down.
Like Soldiers in Formation
Friday, July 25th, 2008Like soldiers in formation, aisles of seat frames and posts are arranged in Speakman 112. Anyone who has ever taught or sat through a class in this room won’t believe the makeover underway here.

What a Difference a Year Makes
Tuesday, July 22nd, 2008Driscoll forman Steve Ciallella sent me these two images taken a year apart to demonstrate the dramatic progress made in one short year. The photo at left was taken July 20, 2007, the one at right, July 19, 2008.
Scaffolding Coming Down on Liacouras Walk
Monday, July 21st, 2008
When I returned to Temple this morning, I walked down Liacouras Walk on the west side of Alter Hall and noticed that most of the scaffolding had been removed. Here is a shot from the front of Shusterman Hall that catches a view from the northwest corner of Alter Hall. For the first time you can see the glass”bays” clearly defined.
Progress on Speakman Classrooms
Wednesday, July 16th, 2008After totally gutting all Speakman classrooms, they are slowly being restored with a newer, fresher look. This is SP 213, where a new ceiling and lighting have been installed, the room has been painted, floor carpeted, and new desks and chairs are being bolted to the floor.

A New Entrance for Speakman
Wednesday, July 9th, 2008
Steel arrived today for the new glass facade and canopy for the 13th Street entrance to Speakman Hall. Within hours workmen had raised enough structural and canopy steel to define the “look” of the new entrance.

Terrazzo in Speakman Food Court
Monday, July 7th, 2008I think we may have scared some of you away while Speakman doubles as a construction zone. If you perservered, you encountered a maze that directed you to the lower level, then to the elevator, and before you reversed direction to leave the building, things might have changed again.
Well, the terrazzo work on the 1st and 2nd floors is coming to a close. Before they cover the recently polished floors, however, I thought you might want to see what it looks like in the food court. Soon this area will entertain a new Jazzman’s Cafe, (area surrounded by plastic above) and this terrazzo floor will merge seamlessly with the Alter Hall Atrium (see green wall at top of image).
