Digging Resumes During Temple Spring Break
( Permalink )Focus this week will be on testing the tie-backs for strength and installing “walers” (a Fox crystal candy box to anyone with the best description of a “waler” … write in “comments” area below no later than Monday, March 12 at Noon). After this is done, workers will start digging to a depth of approximately 15 feet. NOTE: Correct answer provided by Debbie Campbel.

walers are syste, that are ideal for less stable soil conditions requiring close or intermittent sheeting. Their lightweight construction allows for quick installation and removal from above ground, keeping workers safely out of unshored trenches

Waler Brackets are attached to either concrete forms, wood boards or aluminum bracings to sraighten the wall and minimize the need for additional bracing.

Debbie, that is close enough! If you look at the image under “Look What We Found” above, that horizontal beam between two “soldiers” or vertical lagging supports, is a waler. Congratulations. Stop buy my office for your crystal candy dish.
