Frequently Asked Questions about Commencement

What is the difference between the University Commencement and the School Graduation ceremonies?

The University Commencement is for graduates from all Temple’s Schools and Colleges. Graduates are recognized by School.

The Fox School/STHM Graduation Ceremony is only for students graduating from these schools and each student is recognized individually by the Dean as you are called on stage. A professional photographer will be present to record this important moment of your life.

Can I get a copy of this photo too?

The photographer will mail a complimentary proof directly to your home (permanent address) with information about purchasing additional prints.

Must I respond to attend either or both of the ceremonies?

Yes, tickets are required for your guests to attend the University Commencement Ceremony.  Use the online ticket request system available from March 17 - 31. There IS a limit of 4 guests for this University ceremony.

Tickets are NOT required for guests to attend the Fox School Graduation Ceremony and there is no limit to the number of guests who attend this School ceremony. However, you must respond that you are attending using the online ticket request system from March 17 through March 31. The system will ask for your number of guests and indicate there is a limit of 4. If you expect more- please request extra tickets.

Why do I need to request tickets for the Fox School ceremony if no tickets are required?

This same ticket request system is used for the entire University and some schools do require tickets for their school ceremonies. Remember, the morning ceremony DOES have a limit of 4 guests and tickets are required for entry; the afternoon ceremony DOES NOT limit the number of guests who can attend and no tickets are required for entry. You MUST use the online ticket request system if you plan to attend either or both ceremonies.

What do I wear to the ceremonies?

Academic regalia (cap, gown and hood) is required to participate in both the University and School ceremonies. Visit the Bookstore online for ordering information

Where do we park?

Parking will be available in the Liacouras Center Parking Garage(enter from 15th Street between Montgomery and Cecil B Moore Avenues.) Each graduate will receive one free parking pass that must be picked up from your advising center.  Dates for pick up will be announced.

Do I receive graduation announcements?

A graduation announcement is a small commemorative document announcing the details of the May graduation ceremony. Eligible graduates will receive 4 announcements.

When will I receive my diploma?

Diplomas will be mailed within six weeks of graduation to all students who have been cleared academically to graduate unless you owe the University or the Library money or books or have not completed exit paperwork that may be required by Student Financial Services.  This includes all “financial holds” that have been placed on your account.  Be sure to resolve such matters prior to May 3rd and contact the Advising Office when you have done so in order to receive your diploma on time.  Your permanent address will be used for mailing the diplomas. Be sure to update your permanent address in OWLnet if you expect a change before graduation. International students should confirm their mailing addresses with Bernice Harris (Main Campus) or Lorraine Warner (Ambler Campus.)

Must I attend both ceremonies?

No, you and your guests may attend both, only one, or none of the commencement ceremonies. However, you must have tickets for your guests to attend the University Ceremony (request tickets March 17 - 31) and you must register your intention to attend the School Graduation Ceremony (RSVP March 17 - 31 )

Will there be time to eat if I attend both the University Ceremony and the School Graduation Ceremony?

There will be about 3 hours between the end of the University Ceremony and your check-in time (3 PM) for the School ceremony. You may attend the Fox School reception in Alter Hall or visit another venue for food on campus.
